Abstract

Today, technology plays a major role in almost every activity, be it entertainment, education, social or even business. Marketing has always been a tool used to increase the reach and gains for businesses worldwide. With technology being an important part of the 21st century, the inclusion of social media in the marketing segment plays a pivotal role for the global communication and advertising. To understand the extent of businesses being affected by social media and how businesses utilize social media to raise their reachability globally and effectively, this research was conducted to survey the online community in Malaysia which comprised of university students, working adults and business owners. The findings strongly suggest the necessity of effective communications for a successful and effective social media marketing. Furthermore, this research proves the existence of a solid relationship between online social media and business marketing. This paper also provides insights to the increasing number of businesses moving their businesses online to the social media platforms.
