Abstract

The purpose of the present paper is to understand the entire concept of changes during adolescent stage of life of an individual, the consequences due to the physical, mental and sexual changes, the impact of social norms, social context and family socio-economic background and personal structure on the behaviour of adolescents in the context of rural areas in India. The present study also emphasize the need for a holistic and integrated approach and a proposal of setting up of Adolescent Guidance and Counselling Centres at the local level in collaboration with various government agencies and NGOs in order to fully understand the problems faced by adolescents in rural areas stricken by poverty, lack of skill for guidance of children and detrimental social environment and hence to help rural adolescents to cope up with their emotional stress and conflicts and to help them in attaining their aspirations so by helping them to acquire knowledge and skills that are vital for keeping them in the right track as they grow up into adulthood.
